It's been a long time coming, but the updated version of Starscape is finally here!

The core of Starscape has not changed. It is still a found-family, RP heavy exploration of Trust and the emotions of a crew that lives together in space. However, the mechanics that facilitate this type of story have changed substantially. You will need to discard old versions of the game due to the amount it has changed.

Some of the changes:

• Trust: Trust has been changed to a type of currency. It is wagered to trigger certain moves, representing the risk of losing your crewmates' Trust through your successes and failures, as well as gained and lost in other ways during gameplay. 
• Conditions: Conditions are now directly linked to different stats and marking too many conditions can cause stats to crash. There is no longer flipping between positive and negative conditions. 
• New Basic Moves: The Basic Moves of the game have been updated to focus more on the relationship aspects of the game and to utilize the Trust mechanic of wagering it. 
• Ship Playbook: The ship playbook has been completely redone and now includes a menu of options to help build the ship, a simplified damage system, and a system for investing in the ship to get upgrades.
• Playbooks: The player character playbooks have been updated to reflect the changes in other mechanics and based on continued play testing. 
• New Cover: Beautiful new cover and other art by our amazing artist!

When I published the last version in 2022, I thought the game was almost done. I really did! But I was continuing to play test the game at local conventions and in campaigns with friends. There were times when the rules just didn't flow correctly and the mechanics kind of piled up on themselves. I wasn't satisfied with that, and so have continued to brainstorm and try new versions of the game. The mechanics in v4.0 have been tested for a while now and I am much happier with how they perform and capture the intended purpose of Starscape. Thank you SO MUCH to all the amazing playtesters who continue to make Starscape the best game it can be!
